A dog called Dolly Pawton has melted hearts all over the Internet after her owner shared a video of the pooch's reaction to seeing inflatable balloons in a clip that has gone viral on social media.
In a post shared in August on TikTok under the username Originaldollypawton, the golden retriever can be seen afraid of the balloons, refusing to get off her owner's lap, preventing her from driving home with the party decorations.
Dolly's owner can be heard saying: "So this is my current situation right now, she doesn't like the balloons, we're scared of them."
As Dolly refuses to get up, her owner is heard saying: "I can't drive! Come on you gotta get over here, this is your seat! Stay over there, Dolly. I'm sorry you gotta stay over here." She then asks the pooch: "Are balloons scary for you?"
While balloons may be a sign of a joyous occasion for humans, dogs may not be as happy to see them, and they have their reasons.
Dogs may be scared of a balloon due to the unpredictable movement, smell, or feel of it, according to Pet Advisers. Even just the sound of balloons rubbing together or popping is quite frightening to dogs, per the dog resource website.
Some dogs, however, do love playing with balloons. As it can become quite dangerous, their play time must be monitored any time there are balloons around. If your pup manages to puncture and deflate the balloon, it could very easily become a choking hazard or create an internal blockage if ingested.
The video quickly went viral on social media, getting viewers from across TikTok. It has so far received over 1.1 million views and 121,600 likes on the platform.
One user, Ella, commented: "I'm glad I'm not the only one with a service dog who needs their own service." KrissyDB7 said: "She's like mom...you can hold me, those are scary."
Kristina Fletcher wrote: "When I went to pick up my golden when she was a puppy, I let her sit in my lap on the way home. She still wants to at 80lbs."
