English rock band Procol Harum’s lyricist Keith Reid passed away at 76.

The band, well known for their 1967 single A Whiter Shade Of Pale, issued a Facebook statement on Wednesday confirming Keith’s passing.

The group said that Hertfordshire native Keith, who had been undergoing Cancer treatment “for the last few years,” “died abruptly” on Thursday in London.

Generations of pop lovers have pondered the meaning of Reid’s gloomy psychedelic fantasy, “we skipped the light fandango,” which he composed for the band’s 1967 breakthrough single “A Whiter Shade of Pale.”

According to a message on the band’s website, Keith Reid, lyricist for the British band Procol Harum, passed away on March 23 after battling Cancer.

Reid was also a co-writer of the classic 1960s hit song “Whiter Shade of Pale.” He was 76. The songwriter of the 1960s psychedelic classic A Whiter Shade of Pale had been undergoing Cancer therapy for two years.

After two years of Cancer therapy, he passed away in a hospital in London.

Keith Reid was a British songwriter and lyricist born in London on October 19, 1946. 

He left school early to pursue a career in songwriting and met Gary Brooker, with whom he co-wrote most of Procol Harum’s songs. 

Reid was an official member of Procol Harum and wrote the lyrics for their biggest hit, “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” which sold over six million copies worldwide. 

He also wrote lyrics for two songs by Michel Polnareff and co-wrote John Farnham’s hit “You’re the Voice.” Reid moved to New York in 1986 and founded a management Company. He later reunited with Procol Harum for two albums and released two under The Keith Reid Project banner.
